Module 4
Written Communication
Most of your daily messages are written — often on WhatsApp. Text strips away tone and body language, so clarity and courtesy have to be built in on purpose.
Most of your professional reputation now travels in writing — a WhatsApp line, an email subject, a one-paragraph update. Employers rank written communication among the very top attributes they hire for,3 and unclear messages are a large slice of that measurable cost of miscommunication.1 Clear writing isn't about grammar for its own sake — it's about being trusted and acted on the first time.

The 90-second voice note
A coordinator sent a 90-second WhatsApp voice note covering three unrelated things: a delivery change, a document request, and a meeting time. The recipient, mid-clinic, listened to the first 20 seconds, caught the delivery change, and missed the other two. The document arrived late and the meeting was double-booked. Re-sent as three short texts — each with the ask in the first line — the same content would have taken the reader 15 seconds and left a searchable record. Channel and structure, not effort, were the problem.

The subject line that got the “yes”
An account manager stopped opening emails with “Following up…” and started naming the ask and the deadline in the subject: “Approval needed by Tue — 3 pricing options inside.” Reply times dropped from days to hours. A manager later mentioned that those emails were the ones that “always got actioned first.” One small structural habit made his requests rise to the top of a busy inbox.
